Press meeting for the handover of the area marked as the South Campus was held in Turgut Özal Conference Hall by our Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan and Çorum Mayor Muzaffer Külcü.
In the forementioned meeting, it was announced that the handover of 62 acres of land which belong to Çorum Municipality was made to South Campus of our university which will be built on 481 acres of land. Çorum Mayor Muzaffer Külcü said “I think the universities should contribute to the development and growth of the cities in every sense.”
Çorum Mayor Muzaffer Külcü : “University-city integration is important.”
Stating the importance of university-city integration and close location of the universities to the city, Mayor Külcü says “Starting from this belief, the university buildings should be located in the entrance of the city. City entries are perception point for people. First met with the city gives clues about the general life of that city. When it comes to developing the city, we should move altogether. There is a natural flow of cities. People who have a say in the management of the city and civil society organizations should think of the city, have targets, create a city vision and cooperate in this way. If we are living in this city, our mission is to carry out what the city needs and what will be done.”
Mayor Külcü: “We care about our university.”
“The development and growth of this city depends on the efficiency and productivity of universities. As of today, we have a country with 200 universities. So, our university is supposed to be a center of attraction relative to other universities that we can reach our targets. In terms of creating physical facilities of the campus, the municipality and other institutions will contribute a lot. The biggest problem of this city is campus affairs. Campus was a job to be done economically and in time. Now we are no longer talking about it. When I became the Mayor of Çorum, I said that I would work as if I were the vice-rector.”
Külcü: “Our university is raising the brand value of our city.”
“Ever since the establishment of the university, we have contributed to the every phase of university and we will go on doing it. The greatest richness of our stand is our young population. If the youth is educated, it will be the richness of our country in the real sense. Universities are trying to do this. With more dynamic academic staff relative to past days in new environments, young population will become more qualified. At the same time, a good university raises the brand value of a city. I believe that our university is on this way. I enjoy watching every step of our university as a person living in this city and a mayor. Hereafter we will support our university in every sense as much as we do. I would like to thank Finance Minister Mr. Naci Ağbal, National Education Minister Mr. İsmet Yılmaz, Çorum Deputy and the Parliamentary Administrative Officer Mr. Salim Uslu, Treasurer Ali Sormaz, National Real Estate Directorate and everyone who have contributed to this process of our university.”
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, “As a result of a long struggle, we handover the place of South Campus. I hope it will be very good for our province and area. The succes of our university is the success of Çorum.” says.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan continues to his words as “Since I began to work in 2011, the most important subject has been the campus areas in every meeting. This was a difficult issue and needed time to overcome. The statement of our Mayor – I will work as though I were the vice rector, his clear stance desire and willingness on this issue verified this.”
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Alkan: “We had 481 acres of land allocation.”
“There is a 1000-bed hospital across South Campus, bus station near it, and a sport complex next to it. Now that area is becoming a serious center of attraction. We had 481 acres of land allocation in such an area. We would like to build a health campus here. With a clearer words, we desire to have a separate Medical University. Even if there isn’t a separate university, School of Medicine, School of Health Professions, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy and Dentistry within our university will take place here. These investments are not easy, they should be planned. A thousand-bed hospital and a health campus across it will emerge in the health region. Behind the area, the dormitories have been built. We will have a campus both in the entrance and exit of the city.”
Prof. Dr. Alkan: “This university belongs to Çorum and is the success of Çorum.”
“Being a university is completely related to the cultures while establishing a university depends on the economy. The formation of your culture and having some reflexes is as important as the buildings. After that our duty is to educate people more qualified and equipped. We have a growing success in the world university rankings. We are explaining these, however, this university belongs to Çorum and the development of Çorum is in the favor of Çorum’s people. The problems of the university not only interest us but also Çorum. The succes is Çorum’s.”
Rektör Prof. Dr. Alkan: “We have managed to increase the number of our students in 5 years – from 8.000 students to 17.000 students.”
“As of today, we have over 17.000 students. We have managed to increase the number of our students in 5 years – from 8.000 students to 17.000 students. This shows that there is a potential in Çorum. If we complete the buildings and build our infrastructure, this number will increase more. I must say also that there is no problem with our budget. Prof. Dr. Alkan: “Nationalism is the most important value.”
In addition to these, in his statements Prof. Dr. Alkan gives place to 15 July Military Coup and says “ Nationalism is a very important issue. We realize that giving best education to our people, having the trained manpower are our duties. In these buildings, we should educate the ones who have national values and national will. The tremendous work is being done when we stand shoulder to shoulder. We have seen them all experienced. Enjoy the South Campus. I also would like to thank Finance Minister Mr. Naci Ağbal, Forestry and Water Affairs Minister Veysel Eroglu, our ministries, Çorum Deputies, Our Mayor, National Real Estate Directorate, our Treasurer Ali Sormaz, our financial office, our many bureaucrats, non-governmental organizations and everyone who have contributed to this process of our university.”
After the press meeting, our Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan presented a plaquet to çorum Mayor Muzaffer Külcü.
