12th World University Wrestling Championship: 1st Day
The opening ceremony of 12th World University Wrestling Championship hosted by Hitit University was organized in Atatürk Sports Hall on 25th October 2016.
Necmettin Kılıç, Çorum Governer; Salim Uslu, Mp of Justice and Development Party and TGNA Chief, Muzaffer Külcü, Mayor; Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, Rector of Hitit University; Prof. Dr. Kemal Tamer, the Head of Turkish University Sports Federation; Leopold Germain, Vice Chairman of FISU; the representatives of our city’s state institutions and organizations, around 250 athletes from 26 countries, 100 coaches and official responsible, teaching and administrative staff and students of Hitit University and the people in Çorum participated in the championship.
Prof. Dr. Kemal Tamer, the Head of Turkish University Sports Federation stated, “We performed great organizations in Turkey. The most significant among them was World University Wrestling Championship. My sincere thanks must go to the Hitit University which hosted this great event.”
Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, The head of Organizing Committee said, “We take justified proud of having a great many challenging champions especially in wrestling sports in our city and hosting this great organization in such a city. He continued his speech, “European Futsal Championship 2017 will be held in Çorum and I would like to thank all those who contribute to these great organizations.”
Muzaffer Külcü, Mayor of Çorum, stated, “The first World Wrestling Championship was organized in İstanbul in 1968, the third championship was organized in Ankara in 1998 and 12th world championship was organized in Çorum after 18 years. In this respect, I can proudly say Turkey is represented third times and Çorum hosts the third World Championship.”
Salim Uslu, Çorum MP and TGNA Chief said, “Çorum has proved its success by undertaking the organization of an international championship. Today, there are 26 countries here. 26 countries have preferred Turkey. The only safe country in the world is Turkey; the safest city of Turkey is Çorum. I would like to thank those who contributed to carrying out the championship.”
Leopold Germain Senghor, Vice Chairman of FISU stated, “I am glad to be in that lovely city on behalf of International University Sports Federation for the important event which was organized 12 times since its beginning and 3rd time in Turkey. Today, we are all together here to participate in the 12th World University Wrestling Championship.”
After the protocol speeches, Necmettin Kılıç, Çorum Governor started the Opening Ceremony of “12th World University Wrestling Championship”. Following the opening, FISU Anthem was listened and the oaths of athletes and referees were read respectively. Tevfik Kış, Taha Akgün and Nazmi Avluca, previous champions from Çorum were awarded with plaques after folk dance show which fascinates the participants.
Following the end of the Opening Ceremony of “12th World University Wrestling Championship”, final competitions began and the opening ceremony of the organization ended with presenting the medals to the athletes who got degrees in final competitions.
The Championship, which has been attended by almost 250 athletes, 100 coaches and official responsible from 26 countries, will continue in Atatürk Indoor Sports Hall between the dates of 26-30 October 2016
The competitions will be held at 02.00pm every day in the determined dates and final competitions will be organized at 06.00pm.
